A young couple wished to remodel their sprawling Bridle Trails farmhouse to accommodate a growing family, with a special emphasis on interior kitchen décor. The large, 6,000-square foot home was set in the popular ranch community outside Bellevue, but the kitchen was disproportionately small for so grand a home. The primary goal of the remodel was to establish the kitchen as the heart of the home, as the homeowners loved to cook and frequently entertained for business. The kitchen was tripled in size, making it more to scale to the rest of the home. Elements such as a wine fridge, warming drawers, large butcher-block island, and Wolf range were added to create greater ease for their cooking and entertaining. A large fireplace set across from the kitchen warmed the adjacent family room.
To create a casual family eating area, a greenhouse-styled breakfast nook was added to the kitchen. The glass and atrium feel of the space was enhanced by a vintage farm-style table. Above the nook, a beautiful, private deck was constructed, thereby creating more of a master suite, just off the master bath. Although other areas of the home were also remodeled, the only area photographed and represented here is the kitchen and breakfast nook renovation.
